Is Property Tax applicable on rented flats?

Yes. The owner is liable to pay. The bill is always generated in the owner's name, regardless of who occupies the property.

What happens if I don't pay by March 31st?

NMMC charges a heavy penalty of 2% per month (compounded) on the outstanding amount. It's cheaper to pay on time!

How do I change the name on the bill?

You need to submit a "Transfer Application" at your local ward office with a copy of the Sale Deed and Index II.

I paid online but didn't get a receipt immediately. Is my money stuck?

Don't panic. It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the bank to reconcile the payment with the NMMC server. If the amount is deducted, do not make a second payment. Wait for 24 hours, then check the "View Receipt" tab on the NMMC portal to download your official PDF receipt for Income Tax proof.
